So, in the latest LJ meme that's going around, joyliveshere says:
23. Who do you least expect to send this back to you? ... Or maybe Brent, who is rarely frivolous.
I like confounding expectations, so here you go... ;-)
Welcome to the spring 2006 edition of getting to know your friends. What you are supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire email and paste it onto a new email that you'll send. Change all the answers so they apply to you, and then send this to a whole bunch of people, including the person who sent it to you. The theory is that you will learn a lot of little things about your friends, if you did not know them already.
1. What time did you get up this morning?
Which time? :-( I'm fighting this stupid cold that everybody else has, so I went to bed around 11pm, woke up at 12:30am, 4:45am, 2:30am, 7:30am (and called to cancel my appointment with my trainer, which you all know how much I hate to miss), and finally woke up for the last time at 8:30am or so, though I lay there watching TV for a while and didn't crawl out of bed until around 10:30am. I hate being sick.
2. Diamonds or pearls?
Neither, for myself... If I were buying them as a gift, probably pearls; I don't see any particular reason to support deBeers and the rest of the diamond cartel, and I think pearls look better anyway (though diamonds do have way-cool physical/mechanical characteristics).
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
King Kong. Have we escaped from the dinosaurs on the island yet?
4. What is your favorite TV show?
That's still on? West Wing (though it's only on for another few weeks). The new Battlestar Galactica is pretty rockin', too...
Ever? Hmm, depends on age... At one point, it was Emergency!, though now that I know a fair bit about fire fighting and rescue, I can't watch it without cringing at the technical gaffes and flat-out unsafe practices; some things are better left as fond childhood memories. Magnum, P.I., and Simon & Simon were big favorites for a while when I was a kid, too.
5. What did you have for breakfast today?
Lunch. See "I hate being sick", above. By the time I finally crawled out of bed, showered, and got downstairs, it was nearly 11am, so I had a bowl of creamy harvest squash soup and some Frito's. Normally, breakfast on a Monday (or Wednesday, or Friday; those are the mornings I go to the gym) is a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of decaf chai.
6. What is your middle name?
Brent. ;-) The real question is, what's my first name?
7. Favorite cuisine?
8. What foods do you dislike?
Coconut (especially shavings). Fish (except fileted and breaded). Any seafood other than shrimp, crab, and lobster. Tomatos, if they're in anything like their raw form (they're marvelous once they've been processed into sauce, paste, salsa, ketchup, or anything like that).
9. Favorite drink of the month?
Caffeine-Free Oregon Chai; I buy it by the case.
10. What is your favorite CD at the moment?
CD? What's that? ;-) Most of my listening these days is either XM Radio (channel 81, BPM) or KFOG.
11. What kind of car do you drive?
12. Favorite sandwich?
Togo's #7, large, hot, on white, with mayonaise, pickles, and American cheese only. (For those of you outside Silicon Valley, that's a large hot roast beef on a sweet french roll.)
13. What characteristics do you despise?
14. Favorite Item Of Clothing?
15. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation where would you go?
That I've been to before? Melbourne, Australia, or Dublin, Ireland.
That I haven't been to yet? Iceland.
16. What color is your bathroom?
17. Favorite brand of clothing?
Knights (of the Round Table).
18. Where would you retire to?
19. Favorite time of the day?
20. What was your most memorable birthday?
Hmm, don't really recall any one as particularly more memorable than the rest...
21. Where were you born?
Somewhere I wasn't supposed to be... ;-) My mom says she intended for me to be born in Phoenix, where both of my dad's parents were senior doctors at one of the major hospitals; however, they were living on the ranch at the time, about a 3-hour drive from Phoenix, and apparently they only made it as far as Prescott (1 hour from the ranch) before I decided it was time to make my entrance.
22. What is your favorite cartoon?
23. Who do you least expect to send this back to you?
24. Person you expect to send it back first?
I dunno, sfo2lhr maybe, if it amuses him.
25. What fabric detergent do you use?
Arm & Hammer.
26. Are you a morning person or a night person?
Morning person, these days. I used to be a night person, when I was younger. I'm not quite sure when that bit got flipped...
27. What is your shoe size?
28. Do you have any pets?
29. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share with friends and family?
Uh, most of them know it already, but I've decided to move from Mountain View to San Francisco, and am actively looking for housing up there.
30. What did you want to be when you were little?
Search and rescue helicopter pilot. Unfortunately, I was wearing glasses before I even finished high school, and the military wouldn't take anybody for flight training who didn't have 20/20 uncorrected vision at the start of training. I've always thought that was a silly rule, intended just to weed out applicants, since they'll keep you on as a pilot if your vision goes bad later (even if you haven't finished training yet).2 comments - Leave a comment
It's scary how similar we are.
"Emergency!" rocked. King Kong was my most recent film, and my biggest problem with Diamonds is the deBeers.
Now I have to stop by a Togo's and get a number 7!
My sister and I, who had a very limited number of shows we were allowed to watch, used to watch Emergency! when our parents were out of the house. Since our other contraband TV of choice was The Love Boat and Fantasy Island, Emergency easily took top place.
