Fantastic concert; I think I'm in love... ;-) - MtnVwPilot

Feb. 8th, 2006 10:49 pm Fantastic concert; I think I'm in love... ;-)

I just got back from a fantastic concert, by a Canadian group called Leahy (pronounced "LAY-he")... The group consists of an ever-changing mix of adult siblings from a family of 11 children (all of whom have been in the band at some point), plus assorted spouses and friends. They play a fun mix of folk, Celtic, country, and whatever suits their fancy.

Tonight's band was 8 people: 2 sisters, 4 brothers, 1 sister-in-law, and 1 friend filling in on bass (the regular bass player, another sister, apparently alternates 2 weeks on the tour and 2 weeks at home with her kids; what a great gig!). 3 of the 4 brothers on stage tonight played fiddle (the 4th was the drummer); oh, wait, at the end of the show it is awesomely demonstrated that tonight's 2 sisters play the fiddle, too...

The 2 sisters, besides playing keyboards, guitar, banjo, and mandolin (and fiddle, as we discovered in the finale) are also killer Irish jig dancers, and danced every few numbers throughout the night. I think I'm in love with Maria; she seemed to be having such a joyous time on stage tonight, and did some incredible playing and dancing. ;-)

If they come to your town, I strongly encourage you to check 'em out!

Well, it looks like I missed the one-and-only time they'll be in my town (= your town) for the forseeable future. Thanks for the timely information, buddy.

Hey, mate, I'd never seen or heard them before last night myself, so I had no idea how good they are. You can bet I'll be keeping an eye out for future local appearances, though.

Yeh, really, Brent. Thanks for letting us know after-the-fact. Next time they come to town, I think you should buy tickets for your whole flist.

Seriously, though, thanks for the info. I never would never think to go see family group of musicians, especially one with someone named Maria in it. I wouldn't expect them to be singing anything other than "Climb Every Mountain" and "My Favorite Things."

That first paragraph was supposed to be sarcastic, but lj cut out my sarcasm HTML tag. But I guess that was obvious.

You gotta write it as <sarcasm> , so that LJ doesn't try to treat it as a real HTML tag. The "<" get displayed as "<" ("less than"), and the ">" gets displayed as ">" ("greater than").

Hmm, I didn't learn that her name was Maria until the very end, when they introduced everybody... And by that time, I was already smitten! ;-)
